Two San Ramon Pizza Favorites: Zachary’s Vs. Z Pizza
September 19, 2008
We should all feel so fortunate to have two vastly different yet phenomenal pizza restaurants right here in the Tri-Valley city of San Ramon.
Let’s start with one pizzeria that has been a staple in the East Bay for over 25 years. Zachary’s Chicago Pizza has quickly become a Tri-Valley favorite with its newest location in the heart of San Ramon. Zachary’s Pizza is best known for serving up deep dish style pizza.
For years, I have traveled to the Berkeley restaurant just to pick up a couple of half-baked deep dish pizzas to bring home. As I started my return trip, the amazing smells that emanated from the box put me into an euphoric state. I remember numerous times being so overwhelmed that I almost pulled the car over on the 580 highway just to take a bite.
Obviously, I like pizza. Not only are the smells from Zachary’s Pizza delightful, the taste is unreal. From its deep dish look to its bakery-styled crust to its thick and chunky tomato sauce, this pizza is one of the best in the Tri-Valley and potentially all of Northern California.
An equally good yet substantially different style of pizza comes from another San Ramon pizza shop, Z Pizza. Z Pizza is not only in San Ramon, franchises can be found in 14 states nationally. Their specialty - unique thin crust pizzas with an emphasis on ingredients. The dough is made from premium Montana winter-wheat flour prepared fresh every day, hand-thrown and fire-baked until uniquely crisp. The quality continues as the toppings go on. They combine select ingredients using award-winning skim mozzarella from Wisconsin, certified organic tomato sauce, MSG-free pepperoni, additive-free sausage, and fresh produce. The combo a pizza with perfect texture and exquisite taste.
So, Zachary’s vs. Z Pizza. Thankfully, we don’t have to choose one. I make regular trips to both of these fine establishments.

Got something to say?

You cant beat Zachary’s
Brian….. I’m going to have to disagree with you on this one. Zpizza does something different and it’s fresh and healthy. Just like adam says there’s a ton of new and fresh toppings, so eating at zpizza is not just good it’s almost like an event because it’s so different every time….unless you order the same thing every time but that’s a whole different story.
